Pruning hedges, tips and information
Garden care and tree surgery tips from Pollard Tree Care, Eastbourne, East Sussex
As we are approaching summer, we are spending more time outside, enjoying the longer evenings and warmer days. There are many jobs to do in the garden currently and we are noticing that our hedges have grown from our winter heavy pruning. We are keen to give them a nice shape up, especially as we are now allowed to have some people round in the garden. Hedges require a bit of maintenance and depending on the hedge this can be quite regular during the summer, up to three times for box hedges (Buxus sempervirens) . Hedges are the perfect way to provide soft boarders in your garden. If you want to create different zones, establishing different and interesting spaces then planting a few hedge plants in a row will allow this. You see many people also plant hedges in front gardens to protect lower floor windows from street view and also blocking out much of the sound and pollution from the road. Sometimes there is too much light that is being blocked from entering the house, therefore us at Pollard Tree Care can come round and manage the hedge height and width with regular trimming.
Gardening tips:
During the spring months however, some birds may have found your hedge the perfect place to set up home. This is why we take extra care in assessing your hedge before we start any work on it. It is actually an offence to trim hedges that are home to birds under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981.
